Elon Musk Announces Grok, xAI’s Chatbot, to Launch for X Premium+ Subscribers Next Week

Elon Musk, the visionary behind X, confirmed that Grok, xAI’s chatbot

In a recent development, , is set to be available for all Premium+ subscribers starting next week. Despite Musk’s occasional ambiguity with delivery timelines, internal code updates in X’s app indicate that Grok integration is well underway.

Screenshots shared by app researcher Nima Owji reveal Grok’s presence on X’s web app, hinting at its imminent rollout. The web address for Grok is expected to be twitter.com/i/grok. The screenshots also showcase features such as an invitation for non-Premium+ subscribers to upgrade for Grok access and an “Ask Grok” text entry box for interacting with the AI chatbot.

Elon Musk introduced Grok on November 4 to a select group of testers, aims to compete with AI counterparts like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Marketed as having a distinctive personality, Grok is touted to respond with wit and boasts a “rebellious streak.” Notably, it is designed to tackle “spicy” questions rejected by other AI systems.

Beyond its personality, Grok’s uniqueness lies in its real-time knowledge access through the X platform, Elon Musk potentially adding an intriguing dimension to its responses. This addition could serve as a catalyst for increased sign-ups for X’s Premium+ subscription, which underwent a transformation from Twitter Blue to X Premium.

The Premium+ tier, priced at $16 per month, promises an ad-free experience in the For You and Following feeds, along with features like a Creator Hub for user-generated content. Grok’s integration into this premium tier positions it to attract a broader user base, especially considering X’s recent challenges with advertiser departures due to concerns about content and Musk’s behavior.

As X navigates these challenges, Grok’s introduction takes center stage, providing an alternative narrative amidst the recent upheavals at OpenAI. While Grok lacks the boardroom drama of its rival, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has taken notice, engaging in a playful exchange with Musk regarding Grok’s comedic abilities.

Elon Musk, a former co-founder of OpenAI, parted ways with the nonprofit over differences in control and subsequently launched xAI. Grok, trained on a knowledge base akin to ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama 2, distinguishes itself by leveraging real-time information from the X platform and the ability to search the web for updates on various topics.

In conclusion, Grok’s impending debut marks a significant step for xAI and X, presenting an opportunity to enhance the Premium+ subscription offering and potentially reshape the dynamics in the competitive landscape of AI-powered chatbots.
