Rockstar Games has unveiled the highly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto VI” with a slated release in 2025, leaving some investors disappointed as they anticipated an earlier launch. Take-Two Interactive Software, the parent company, experienced a nearly 2% dip in its shares on Tuesday, despite a 50% rally throughout the year.
Impressive Trailer Sets the Stage for Grand Theft Auto VI
The trailer showcases a “Bonnie and Clyde”-esque duo navigating a fictional rendition of Miami, Florida, named “Vice City.” Originally planned for an early Tuesday release, the trailer surfaced on Monday due to a leak on social media.
Jefferies analyst Andrew Uerkwitz remarked that the initial trailer provides glimpses of the setting, impressive graphics, and subtle hints at gameplay. However, with no precise release date, concerns about a potential delay until the holiday of 2025 have arisen.
Take-Two’s fiscal year spans from April to March, and any postponement beyond that period might impact game sales into fiscal 2026. Uerkwitz suggested that a February/March 2025 release could align with Take-Two’s guidance of approximately $8 billion in bookings for the fiscal year 2025, ensuring growth in 2026.
Massive YouTube Reception and Platform Availability
The “Grand Theft Auto VI” trailer garnered nearly 60 million views on YouTube within 10 hours of its launch. The game is slated for release on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S consoles. However, there is no immediate information on the game’s launch for PC and PlayStation 4, as Take-Two has yet to respond to inquiries.
Anticipation surrounds “GTA VI,” expected to be an instant hit following the success of its predecessor, which achieved around $7.68 billion in sales since its 2013 launch. Analysts anticipate further details on “GTA VI,” including pricing and a potential online multiplayer version, to be revealed in 2024.
