Elon Musk Reveals Plans to Integrate Video into X’s Spaces Feature

Elon Musk shared that X, formerly known as Twitter, is gearing up to introduce video functionality to Spaces, the platform’s live audio discussion feature

Elon Musk has outlined the goal of launching this new feature either by the year’s end or, at the latest, in the early months of the upcoming year.

Speaking about the upcoming update, Elon Musk emphasized the simplicity of the video feature in Spaces, where users can easily toggle the video on or off at their convenience. Notably, if there are multiple speakers during a Spaces session, the video feed will dynamically switch to the individual currently speaking—a functionality reminiscent of platforms like Google Meet.

Elon Musk underscored the significance of incorporating video, stating, “It’s helpful to see people’s body language as they speak… It conveys more information if you can see their face and their body language if they wish to.”

By integrating video into Spaces, X aims to provide users with a seamless way to connect and engage with their audience directly within the platform, eliminating the need to resort to external services.

It’s worth mentioning that X had previously introduced a live video broadcasting feature over the summer, aligning itself with the live streaming offerings of other major platforms like Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

Since its inception in 2021 as a direct competitor to Clubhouse, Spaces, under Musk’s leadership, has undergone minimal changes, primarily rebranded as X Spaces. Now, with the impending video integration, Musk and X are poised to elevate Spaces beyond its audio-only origins.

Elon Musk shared these developments during a Spaces session hosted by Mario Nawfal. The session, which featured controversial figures such as Andrew Tate, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Alex Jones, occurred shortly after X reinstated Jones’ account following a user poll. Jones has gained notoriety for propagating conspiracies related to the tragic 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, which claimed 28 lives.
