Instagram Unveils Two-Second Video Notes for Status Updates

Instagram already supports video Stories, the addition of video Notes might raise eyebrows among users seeking to share short videos

Instagram has just introduced an exciting update to its status feature – the ability to post video Notes. The Notes feature, launched a year ago, initially allowed users to share text or emojis in their status updates. Now, Instagram with the latest update, users can post engaging two-second looping video Notes visible to mutual followers or Close Friends for 24 hours.

While Instagram already supports video Stories, the addition of video Notes might raise eyebrows among users seeking to share short videos. However, given the brief duration of two seconds, video Notes are not expected to replace the more comprehensive Instagram Stories. Another distinction is that video Notes only allow content from the front-facing camera and require capturing within the app, ruling out the option to upload videos from the phone’s gallery.

To post a video Note, navigate to your inbox, tap on your photo in the Notes tray, and click the camera button atop your photo. From there, tap the record button to capture a two-second video. After recording, customize the video by adding text before posting.

In response to a friend’s Note, Instagram users can now express themselves more creatively. Instagram has expanded response options to include audio, photo, video, gifs, and stickers. Replies with photos or stickers will be sent as direct messages.

When Instagram introduced Notes in December 2022, it was initially perceived as a competitor to Twitter (now X), offering users a text-based communication platform. During that time, users were seeking alternatives to Twitter after Elon Musk’s acquisition. Reports suggested that Meta considered transforming Instagram Notes into a more robust Twitter rival. However, Meta eventually launched Threads in August as its official Twitter competitor, steering away from the initial speculations about Instagram Notes’ role.
