Amo Unveils its Latest App, Bringing a Zenly-Inspired Twist to Location Sharing

Paris-based startup Amo is making waves again with the release of its third app, and it’s bound to feel familiar to those who were once avid users of Zenly – the location-sharing app that gained fame, was acquired by Snap, and eventually shuttered.

Amo, formed by a group of ten co-founders who previously worked on Zenly, has been on a mission to create a cohesive ecosystem of social apps with seamless integration. Their journey began with ID, a unique social media profile platform allowing users to express themselves through stickers, photos, and drawings. Following that, Capture, the second app, introduced a novel approach to photography, serving as both an innovative camera app and a shared camera roll among friends.

Now, with its third offering, Location, Amo is diving into the realm of location-sharing apps, drawing parallels to the beloved Zenly. The company aims to provide users with a unified experience across its suite of apps – one account, one friend list, one notification screen, and a consistent design system.

Described by Amo’s co-founder and CEO, Antoine Martin, as a “Zenly Lite,” Location functions as both a utility and social app. Users can easily check their friends’ locations on a map, send messages, initiate calls, and even use navigation or ride-hailing apps directly from the platform. The interface is designed to be more mature, steering away from the playful vibe of Zenly but retaining the app’s signature user-friendly features.

Martin highlighted the app’s adult-like approach while maintaining a balance with Zenly’s delightful features. For example, a “knock-knock” button allows users to ping friends, adding a touch of whimsy to the app. Amo is focused on recreating the best aspects of Zenly, aiming to surpass its predecessor in terms of user experience.

Privacy concerns are also addressed within the Amo ecosystem. Users can selectively enable or disable specific apps for individual friends, allowing for a tailored sharing experience.

With Zenly clones saturating the App Store, it’s evident that the interest in location-sharing persists. Amo is positioning itself to not only attract previous Zenly users but also entice new ones, leveraging the network effects between its three interconnected apps – ID, Capture, and Location. As the trio continues to evolve, it will be intriguing to witness how Amo navigates the competitive landscape and solidifies its presence in the location-sharing space.
