According to Kyivstar cyberattack, efforts are underway to bring back SMS text messaging services, while the network is already operational across all standards, including 4G. Although communication is presently functioning at a reduced speed, the company assures users that the quality of all communications will soon improve.

 

While acknowledging potential short-term difficulties in some areas, Kyivstar cyberattack emphasizes that its specialists are swiftly addressing these issues. The Dutch-based parent company, Veon Ltd., also issued a statement confirming the resumption of services.

CEO Perspective: Anticipating Weeks for Full Service Restoration

Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov stated on Thursday that the company anticipates requiring several weeks to fully reinstate all services affected by the cyberattack. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, not only disrupted Kyivstar’s services but also inflicted damage on IT infrastructure and air raid alert systems in multiple regions.

 

Despite the severity of the attack, Komarov reassured the public that customer data remained uncompromised. In an unsettling twist, a group named Solntsepyok, believed by Ukraine’s security service SBU to be linked to Russian military intelligence, claimed responsibility for the cyberattack via a post on the Telegram messenger app.

 

According to Kyivstar’s CEO, the hackers exploited a compromised employee account for the attack. However, the specific details of how they gained access to the account are currently under investigation. As Kyivstar continues to recover from the cyberattack, it highlights the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in safeguarding critical communication infrastructure.
