In a recent overhaul of its board, OpenAI has welcomed Dee Templeton, a Microsoft executive, to serve as a non-voting observer, according to a Bloomberg News report citing an unnamed source. This development comes in the wake of a significant event in November, where OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, faced a brief removal by the board but was reinstated after more than 700 employees threatened to defect to Microsoft.

Upon resuming his role, Altman disclosed that Microsoft would assume a non-voting observer position on OpenAI’s board. In this capacity, Dee Templeton, a seasoned 25-year veteran at Microsoft and currently the Vice President for Technology and Research Partnerships and Operations, gains the ability to attend board meetings and access confidential information. However, Microsoft’s representative does not possess voting rights on crucial matters such as the election of directors.

Reportedly, Dee Templeton has already started participating in OpenAI board meetings. Despite requests, neither OpenAI nor Microsoft has provided comments to Reuters.
