Yotta Boosts AI Cloud Services with $500 Million Investment in Nvidia Chips
Yotta, a prominent Indian data center operator, is set to significantly enhance its AI cloud services through a substantial investment of $500 million in additional AI chips from Nvidia. This move further solidifies Yotta’s strategic partnership with the U.S. chipmaker, bringing their total order book to an impressive $1 billion.
Sunil Gupta, CEO of Yotta, disclosed that the order, consisting of approximately 16,000 Nvidia AI chips H100 and GH200, is scheduled to be placed by March 2025. This follows a previous order for about 16,000 H100 chips, due for delivery by July this year.
Strategic Importance of AI Deals in India:
Nvidia’s partnerships with Indian conglomerates Reliance Industries and Tata Group, established in September last year, highlight the critical significance of AI ventures in India. This is particularly relevant as Nvidia faces challenges in certain chip exports to China and other countries due to U.S. restrictions.
Yotta, a crucial partner for Nvidia in India, operates three data center campuses in Mumbai, Gujarat, and near New Delhi. The growing demand for storage and processing has led to significant investments by global giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in cloud and data centers in India. Notably, Indian billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani have also entered this burgeoning sector.
Nvidia’s near-monopoly on computing systems globally, especially in services like ChatGPT, positions the company favorably in the expanding AI market. Yotta estimates that AI adoption in India will reach $14 billion by 2030, emphasizing the critical role of infrastructure in realizing the country’s AI ambitions.
Shankar Trivedi, a top Nvidia executive, announced at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit that Yotta is establishing an AI data center in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, a new tech city set to go live by March. This aligns with the broader trend of increasing AI investments and infrastructure development in India, with Yotta playing a pivotal role in this transformative landscape.
