With a valuation surge from $100 million in its previous funding round in 2023, ElevenLabs’ latest funding round has propelled it to a unicorn status, reflecting the soaring expectations for widespread adoption of AI voice generation technology.
AI-Driven Multilingual Voice Solutions
ElevenLabs, established just two years ago, specializes in AI models and tools for creating diverse AI-generated voices, encompassing different languages, accents, and emotions. The startup, headquartered in London, currently employs around 40 remote workers globally, with plans to expand its team to 100 by the end of the year, as revealed by CEO Mati Staniszewski.
The startup’s customer base spans individual content creators to enterprises such as Storytel, Paradox Interactive, and The Washington Post. Notably, ElevenLabs is making waves in the political landscape, aiding U.S. campaign staff in reaching voters who speak foreign languages.
Emphasizing transparency, Staniszewski stated, “We are big proponents of being able to detect AI content and trace it back.” The company’s tools, including the AI Speech Classifier, are designed to identify AI-generated audio content, contributing to responsible AI practices.
In a competitive field, ElevenLabs faces rivals like OpenAI, known for its ChatGPT that has popularized generative AI. Staniszewski highlighted the company’s distinctive focus on building both research and workflow layers, setting it apart in the dynamic AI industry.
Beyond voice generation, ElevenLabs offers products focusing on dubbing for movies. Additionally, the startup is developing a marketplace that will empower users to generate AI voices and monetize them through licensing, adding further versatility to its offerings.
