Microsoft Products Likely Exempt from Europe’s Digital Markets Act
According to insider information, Microsoft search engine Bing, browser Edge, and advertising services are anticipated to fall outside the purview of Europe’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). European watchdogs, concluding a five-month-long investigation, have reportedly deemed these products non-dominant, thus excluding them from DMA regulation.
This development offers relief to Microsoft, following recent concerns raised by EU antitrust regulators about the company’s financial support for OpenAI, the entity behind ChatGPT, potentially falling under European Union merger rules.
While certain products are expected to escape regulation is predicted to announce measures ensuring compliance with DMA regulations. Notably, this would impact products such as the Windows operating system and the professional network platform LinkedIn. With the DMA deadline looming on March 7 for all major tech firms, companies are obliged to treat their own services and products in a manner akin to their competitors.
