Stellantis Enhances Digital Integration with CloudMade Acquisition
CloudMade, the British IT company, saw its artificial intelligence framework, machine learning models, and intellectual property rights, including patents, successfully acquired by Stellantis on Wednesday. This strategic move by the world’s third-largest automaker is geared towards fortifying its long-term software strategy and expediting the mid-term development of its STLA SmartCockpit—an integral component within Stellantis’ three-pronged technology platforms aimed at digitally integrating vehicles and drivers.
As the automotive industry increasingly gravitates towards electrification, software is assuming a critical role in the overall value of vehicles. Moreover, it represents a lucrative revenue stream for automakers through associated services. CloudMade, renowned for developing big data-driven automotive solutions, possesses an industry-leading AI-powered, cloud-based framework for collecting and analyzing automotive data sets.
Stellantis anticipates that the integration of CloudMade’s technology will expedite the creation of intelligent mobility solutions with greater efficiency and flexibility, as stated by Yves Bonnefont, Chief Software Officer at Stellantis. While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the agreement includes the onboarding of 44 engineers and software developers from CloudMade into the Stellantis team.
CloudMade’s software technology is poised to significantly impact various facets of vehicle functionality. This encompasses predictive maintenance and diagnostics, Stellantis-specific voice assistance, advanced navigation and mapping, as well as targeted features tailored for efficient fleet management. The acquisition strategically positions Stellantis to harness innovative capabilities, aligning with the industry’s trajectory towards smarter, more connected automotive solutions.
