Over the weekend, executives at Social media company X unveiled plans to establish a dedicated office in Austin, Texas, with a primary focus on combatting child abuse content. Scheduled to testify at the hearing alongside counterparts from Meta Platforms, Snap, TikTok, and Discord, CEO Linda Yaccarino is at the forefront of this endeavor. Joe Benarroch, X’s head of business operations, affirmed the active assembly of the Austin office team. However, achieving the year-end staffing goal hinges on successfully attracting the right talent.

Post the 2022 acquisition by Elon Musk, the company, formerly known as Twitter, has faced criticisms surrounding Musk’s controversial posts and his ambitious efforts to overhaul the platform’s content moderation policies. In a recent blog post, X disclosed a significant increase in account suspensions, with 12.4 million cases for violating rules against child sexual exploitation in the past year, compared to 2.3 million in 2022.

Beyond the core mission of combating child abuse content, the newly established Austin center is poised to play a pivotal role in addressing a spectrum of harmful content, as outlined in X’s official announcement.
