Nvidia CEO Urges Nations to Build Independent AI Infrastructure for Economic Growth and Cultural Preservation

Huang, whose company boasts a remarkable $1.73 trillion stock market value due to its dominance in high-end AI chips, underscored the significance of countries independently driving their AI initiatives. He pointed out that relying on other nations for AI development is not sustainable and urged countries to take the lead in building their AI capabilities. Nvidia, according to Huang, is actively contributing to ‘democratizing’ AI access by capitalizing on the rapid efficiency gains in AI computing.

Addressing concerns about the potential dangers of AI, Huang drew parallels with the successful regulation of other transformative technologies such as automobiles and aviation. He dismissed exaggerated fears surrounding AI, attributing them to certain interests attempting to hinder progress in this field. Huang advocated for a more hands-on approach by nations in building AI capabilities and emphasized the importance of proactive regulation.

Despite a new round of U.S. restrictions in October on some of Nvidia’s AI chips, Huang did not delve into this specific issue during his summit remarks. Nvidia had previously announced in November its collaboration with customers in China and the Middle East to obtain export licenses for compliant products, responding to these restrictions. However, this particular matter was not discussed in Huang’s recent statements.
