Launched in 2020, the Creator Fund has faced criticism from content creators who bemoaned its meager payouts. Some reported earning only a few dollars for videos that garnered millions of views. Responding to these concerns, TikTok introduced the Creativity Program in February, promising enhanced rewards for popular creators.

The Creativity Program employs a revamped rewards formula, offering a higher average gross revenue for qualified video views. Notably, the program distinguishes itself from the Creator Fund by incentivizing creators to produce content longer than one minute. This shift addresses a previous lack of specificity in video length requirements.

To qualify for the Creativity Program, creators must be at least 18 years old, boast a minimum of 10,000 followers, and accumulate at least 100,000 views in the last 30 days. Eligible creators producing high-quality, original content exceeding one minute in length have the potential to earn up to 20 times the previous Creator Fund offerings, according to TikTok.

TikTok spokesperson Maria Jung

She stated, “Our ultimate goal is to provide a robust ecosystem of monetization offerings to creators.” Jung highlighted that the Creativity Program was developed based on insights and feedback gathered from the Creator Fund, showcasing TikTok’s dedication to continuous improvement.

The Creativity Program is just one facet of TikTok’s comprehensive suite of monetization tools, which includes LIVE subscriptions, TikTok Pulse, tips and gifts features, and a Series feature enabling eligible creators to share content behind a paywall. As TikTok evolves, it remains committed to listening and learning from its community to enrich the overall user experience.
