The establishment of Baidu’s quantum computing research center dates back to 2018, under the leadership of Duan Runyao. Duan, holding both bachelor’s and doctorate degrees from Tsinghua University, has overseen notable achievements within the center, including the unveiling of Qian Shi, a quantum computer, in 2022.

 

The recipient of Baidu’s quantum computing donation is the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences (BAQIS), established in December 2017. BAQIS is a collaborative initiative with support from the Beijing municipal government and contributions from distinguished academic institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University.

 

The collaborative history between Baidu and BAQIS in quantum research is significant. In March of the preceding year, the two entities collaborated to launch China’s premier quantum computing industry intellectual property alliance, showcasing their shared dedication to advancing quantum technologies.

 

This initiative by Baidu underscores its commitment to propelling quantum computing research forward and highlights its collaborative engagement with esteemed institutions in the field.
