The factory, located in Brumath near Strasbourg, was initially outlined in 2020 with a planned investment of 200 million euros ($215.28 million). Delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back the rollout.

The operational start date remains undisclosed, with sources projecting it to be by 2025. This development unfolds amid ongoing debates among European leaders on collaboration and risk mitigation with China, France’s third-largest trade partner.

Despite security concerns, Huawei remains committed to establishing a manufacturing presence in France. The French government had communicated restrictions on Huawei 5G equipment, but recent talks resulted in the extension of Huawei 5G licenses in specific cities.
