Intel Unveils Articul8 AI: A New Frontier in Artificial Intelligence
On Wednesday, Intel made a significant announcement, revealing the formation of Articul8 AI, a standalone company dedicated to advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) software initiatives. Backed by DigitalBridge Group and a consortium of investors, the venture is set to chart new territories in the evolving landscape of AI technology.
Articul8 AI is not an isolated endeavor but an outgrowth of Intel’s collaborative work with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in the domain of corporate AI technology. Intel’s proprietary generative AI system, developed using a blend of open-source and internal technology, proved to be a pivotal foundation. This system was tailored to operate within BCG’s data centers, addressing critical concerns related to privacy and security.
Leadership and Vision
Arun Subramaniyan, formerly a vice president and general manager in Intel’s data center and AI group, is poised to take the helm as the Chief Executive Officer of Articul8. In a recent interview, Subramaniyan highlighted the impetus behind Articul8’s establishment. He emphasized that the initiative is a response to the reservations voiced by potential customers who were reluctant to entrust their data to major cloud computing entities for AI tasks. Additionally, concerns were raised about the potential cost escalation as more employees engage with these advanced AI systems.
Articul8 AI aims to address a critical gap in the generative AI landscape. According to Subramaniyan, while building a proof of concept is relatively straightforward, the challenge lies in transitioning these concepts into production safely and in a cost-effective manner. Intel’s move to create Articul8 is part of a broader strategy involving external capital for various business units. Notably, Intel previously spun-out Mobileye Global and has plans for an eventual initial public offering of its programmable chip unit.
