iOS 18: A Glimpse into the Future

In Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, he hinted at “relatively groundbreaking” updates with major new features and designs. Apple typically previews its major software releases, including iOS updates, at WWDC in June.
Although iOS 17 introduced AI-powered features like voice cloning and an improved keyboard, iOS 18 is rumored to bring more substantial changes. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect:
Smarter Siri
Siri, present since iOS 5 in 2011, might undergo significant improvements with iOS 18. Generative AI technology could enhance Siri’s ability to handle questions and auto-complete sentences. Reports suggest that large language models will be used to make Siri smarter, enabling it to respond to more complex voice commands.
Improved Texting with Android
Apple is set to introduce RCS (Rich Communication Services) support to the iPhone, a cross-platform messaging standard. Expected “later next year,” RCS will work alongside iMessage, bringing features like high-quality photo and video sharing, read receipts, typing indicators, and end-to-end encryption. While RCS enhances the messaging experience between iPhone and Android users, iMessage will remain exclusive to Apple devices.
