Sources familiar with the matter suggest an imminent announcement, possibly this week. HPE is eyeing Juniper’s strengths in network security and AI-driven enterprise networking operations (AIOps).

Juniper’s Mist AI, a cloud-based AI platform streamlining wireless and wired network operations, has exhibited impressive growth. CEO Rami Rahim highlighted a nearly doubled revenue over recent quarters, emphasizing plans for wider integration of this technology into diverse network layers.

Both companies faced post-pandemic demand challenges, with HPE showing more resilience due to its diverse product range compared to Juniper.

Juniper Networks grapples with weakened demand from wireless carriers and cable operators, affected by inflation, and contends with fierce competition from industry giants like Cisco Systems (CSCO.O) and Nvidia (NVDA.O) in the networking sector.

Despite Juniper’s shares declining by over 17% throughout 2022 and 2023, lagging behind the Nasdaq Composite index (.IXIC), the company still holds a market value of about $9.6 billion, with shares trading at $36.55 in early Tuesday trading. Meanwhile, Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s stock witnessed an over 8% drop.

Comparing price-to-earnings ratios for the next twelve months, Juniper stands at 12.95, slightly higher than Cisco’s 12.80, based on LSEG data.
