The bot, known as Dean.Bot, operated on OpenAI’s ChatGPT and was created by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Matt Krisiloff and Jed Somers. The duo established the “We Deserve Better” super PAC to support Phillips leading up to the New Hampshire primary. This initiative received a substantial $1 million investment from billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman.

The super PAC engaged AI startup Delphi to develop the bot, prompting to suspend Delphi’s account due to the breach of its rules against political campaign usage. Delphi promptly took down Dean.Bot in response to the account suspension. The bot, equipped with a disclaimer about its AI nature, interacted with voters in real-time through a website, raising concerns among researchers about potential threats to election integrity.

We Deserve Better and Delphi have not provided immediate responses to requests for comments on the situation. This incident underscores the evolving challenges and ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI in political campaigns, emphasizing OpenAI’s commitment to enforcing its usage policies.
