Snap has introduced the Lens Studio 5.0 Beta—a significant upgrade to its AR development tool. This version promises advanced AR capabilities, increased productivity, and a noteworthy integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT API.

ChatGPT API Integration:

Snap’s collaboration with OpenAI brings forth the ChatGPT Remote API, allowing developers to incorporate ChatGPT into their Lenses. This empowers developers to create dynamic, text-based content, opening doors to innovative learning, conversational, and creative experiences for Snapchat users. For instance, Lenses can now feature endless quizzes and randomizers generated by ChatGPT or alter camera styles based on user prompts.

Snap had previously harnessed OpenAI’s technology for its My AI chatbot.

AI Capabilities and Productivity Boost:

Lens Studio 5.0 Beta introduces a 3D face mask generator, leveraging generative AI and Snap’s face mesh capabilities. This feature enables swift creation of personalized and potentially viral self-expression Lenses.

Moreover, productivity takes a leap as projects load 18 times faster. With support for version control tools like Git, multiple developers can collaborate seamlessly, enhancing the capacity to create intricate AR projects.

Digital Goods Expansion:

Following the success of Lenses with Digital Goods, accessible exclusively to developers last year, Snap now opens Digital Goods to all developers. A dedicated section in Lens Explorer aims to facilitate the discovery and usage of these premium AR features by Snapchat users.

Developer Ecosystem and Rewards Program:

Snap reports an impressive developer ecosystem, with 330,000 developers building on its AR platform. Over 3.5 million Lenses have been created, amassing a staggering 3 trillion views in the last year.

Additionally, Snap provides an update on the Lens Creator Rewards program, launched over the summer. This initiative offers AR creators and developers the chance to earn monthly rewards, with over 45,000 Lenses participating in the first month, generating more than 5 billion interactions. While specific payout details remain undisclosed, Snap asserts that rewards are determined by a proprietary formula considering views and various engagement metrics.

In summary, Lens Studio 5.0 Beta positions Snap at the forefront of AR development, fostering creativity, collaboration, and enhanced user experiences.
