However, Amodei declined both propositions, as reported by The Information on Monday. This development follows ongoing efforts to find a successor for Altman after his removal from OpenAI’s board.

While OpenAI chose not to comment, requests for input from board member Adam D’Angelo went unanswered. On Sunday, the board extended an offer to former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear to take on the role of interim chief, an offer that Shear accepted. Simultaneously, Altman agreed to join Microsoft, a key supporter of OpenAI, alongside other crucial personnel.

In response, nearly all of OpenAI’s 700-plus employees, including an executive on the now four-person board, declared their intent to resign by Monday. Notably, the co-founders of Anthropic, who were also executives at OpenAI until 2020, separated from the organization due to disputes over ensuring the safe development and governance of AI.

Anthropic, with backing from Alphabet’s Google and Amazon.com, is known for its Claude AI models, competing for recognition alongside OpenAI’s GPT series.
