In another stride towards convenience, Walmart is developing “Walmart InHome Replenishment” — an AI tool designed exclusively for subscribers to the InHome delivery service. This tool streamlines the online shopping experience by facilitating the quick population of shopping carts with frequently ordered items.

 

Reflecting the broader trend in the retail industry actively embracing Generative AI technology. Amazon, a key competitor, has already integrated generative AI tools for advertising purposes, while even automotive giant Volkswagen announced its integration of ChatGPT into its cars.

 

Walmart is not limiting its AI initiatives to the customer-facing realm. The company is expanding the availability of its in-house AI tool, My Assistant, to employees in 11 countries. Furthermore, Walmart launched an AI and computer vision-enabled service in Sam’s Club stores. Initially piloted in 10 stores, this technology eliminates the need for manual receipt verification, using cameras and AI-processing in the exit area. Following positive feedback plans to extend this innovative technology to nearly 600 clubs by the end of the year, addressing the identified “pain point” of wait times at exits.
