On Monday, Xfinity , a division of Comcast, unveiled an incident of unauthorized intrusion into its internal systems occurring between October 16 and October 19. Known for its provision of video, broadband, and phone services, Xfinity swiftly reported the breach to federal law enforcement and initiated a comprehensive investigation.
Potential Customer Data Compromise
During the illicit access period, certain customer information faced potential compromise, including usernames, hashed passwords, contact details, and the last four digits of social security numbers. They identified a vulnerability in Citrix software as the root cause of the breach but emphasized that the associated software risk has been promptly addressed.
The breach detection occurred on October 25, uncovered during routine cybersecurity exercises. Ongoing data analysis is actively underway to gauge the full extent of the incident and assess potential impacts on customer data.
